A driver was killed after her SUV turned into the path of a semi midday Thursday in Huntington County.

Police and medics were called just after noon to the intersection of S.R. 9 and C.R. 600 North on a report of a crash.

The Huntington County Sheriff’s Department said a black SUV was headed northbound on North Broadway Street approaching the intersection of C.R. 600 North and S.R. 9 North while a 2018 Freightliner semi approached the intersection of C.R. 600 North from northbound S.R. 9.

According to a crash report, the SUV stopped at the intersection, then turned left into the path of the semi. The semi braked but could not avoid a collision, the report said.

The SUV came to rest northeast of the intersection. The driver – identified later as 19-year-old Tori Lynn Andress of Fort Wayne – was found pinned inside, unconscious and unresponsive. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the semi – 57-year-old Ricky Millington of Huntington – was not hurt.

The crash remains under investigation.
