Despite forecast temperatures in the upper 90s and feels-like temperatures in the triple digits, downtown events are still a ‘go’ for Saturday.
The Sip & Savor Wine Festival is back for its second year at Headwaters Park on Saturday. Attendees can enjoy over 100 wine and cider samples from a dozen regional wineries at the event. Admission is $30 now or at the gate, with VIP tickets running $45. Designated-drivers are also welcome to attend for $10. According to event organizers, towels and free water will be available for patrons to keep them cool.
One big help for the Sip & Savor Wine Festival will be the pavilion at Headwaters Park. Still, heat exhaustion will still be possible given the forecast, so attendees should drink plenty of water and hop in a nearby restaurant with A/C to cool down (those attending the festival will be able to go in and out of the main gate).
Buskerfest will not have the pavilion to provide shade at the corner of Wayne and Calhoun Streets downtown. Instead, attendees will have to find some shade trees. This is the 9th year for Buskerfest, a celebration of the street performer. The event is put on by the Downtown Improvement District. They say that although they’ve dealt with wind and rain for Buskerfest in the past, they’ve never dealt with the heat like is in the forecast for this weekend. That’s why they’ll make oscillating fans available at the Downtown Improvement District booth for patrons to stop in and cool down. Lutheran EMS will also be present should anyone faint or need treatment. Water will be available for sale at the event, though you may also bring your own.
Buskerfest is family-friendly and free, though everyone is encouraged to tip the street performers. The event will feature fire dancers, mimes, face-painting, magicians, music, and much more. Some performers this year include On Her Majesty’s Secret Circus, Pop N Fresh, and Pyroscope Entertainment. Buskerfest 2018 will take place from 4-10pm downtown at the intersection of Wayne and Calhoun Streets.
