Death of man shot in NE-side home ruled a homicide

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - The death of a man killed inside a northeast side Fort Wayne home in late June has been ruled a homicide.

Police and medics were called around 8:40 p.m. June 26 to a home in the 9400 block of Greyhawk Drive, inside the Mystic Woods subdivision off Wheelock Road, on a report of a shooting. There, responders found 27-year-old Brandon Edward Bittner inside, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.

Bittner was initially listed in critical condition. First responders attempted to save him, but paramedics eventually pronounced him dead at the scene.

In the days after the shooting, the Allen County Coroner's Office said Bittner died of a gunshot wound to the head, but did not rule on the manner of his death.

On Friday, the coroner's office said in a news release that Bittner's death had been ruled a homicide.

Neighbors in the subdivision told NewsChannel 15 that Bittner was shot in Bill Cooley's home and that Cooley's son accidently shot Bittner. Police have not confirmed that information, no arrests have been made in the case and no suspect information has been released.
