Players from teams that will play for the Division III Men’s Basketball Championship this weekend in Fort Wayne took time away from the court to read to students.
Thursday morning, players from Swarthmore College, Christopher Newport University, Wheaton College and the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh visited East Allen County schools to serve as mentors and role models to students by reading in classrooms.
“East Allen County Schools is excited to partner with NCAA DIII in bringing athletes who serve as mentors and role models into our classrooms to help promote the importance of reading,” said District Superintendent Marilyn Hissong. “This promotes reading to our students in a different perspective which
hopefully will capture the attention of our students. Again, the anticipation and excitement will be
building during the month of March both on the court and in the classrooms! Thank you for partnering
with East Allen County Schools.”
The D-III Final Four kicks off Friday at the Memorial Coliseum. Swarthmore will play Christopher Newport at 6 p.m. in the first semifinal game, and Wisconsin-Oshkosh will face off against Wheaton at 8 p.m. The winners will play at 7 p.m. Saturday for the National Championship.
