Crews fight house fire in Northside neighborhood

Local News

Local firefighters spent part of Wednesday morning battling a house fire. Crews were called to the 1700 block of Alabama Avenue around 7:45 a.m. That’s just north of Lakeside Park.

Fire officials said after noticing the family cat acting strange, a man inside the home looked outside and noticed the porch on fire. He was able to safely exit the home.

WANE 15 is told the man’s parents were at work at the time, and his sister was heading to school. The family’s cat was rescued by firefighters and is expected to be okay.

Firefighters worked quickly to contain the porch fire. They were able to declare it under control in approximately 16 minutes.

The home suffered significant damage. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
