FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – The Allen County Coroner’s Office has released the identity of the person found dead inside a burning home Saturday, May 23 in Fort Wayne. Susan Mae Kuhn, 54, died from thermal burns and smoke inhalation and her death was ruled an accident.

Just after 3 a.m. Fort Wayne Police arrived at the fire in the 1300 block of Fay Drive where they found flames coming from the first and second floor and reports someone may still be inside.

When firefighters searched the home for people inside, they immediately found Kuhn who was already dead.

Crews worked to knock down the fire, but conditions worsened and they had to evacuate with a partial floor collapse.

They did determine no one else was inside the home at the time.

It took about 30 minutes to contain the fire, and crews worked most of the morning to control hotspots.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
