Council considers refunds for Fort Wayne trash customers

Local News

Fort Wayne City Council on Tuesday discussed a possible reimbursement for garbage collection customers.

Last week, Mayor Tom Henry asked his working group to look into a refund after months of missed pickups by contractor Red River Waste Solutions.

The resolution outlines two possible options for reimbursement – one that would waive residents’ solid waste fees for a month and another that would use the fines collected from Red River to reimburse residents.

The non-binding resolution was introduced at Tuesday night’s regular meeting. It will go to a vote later.

The Mayor’s Working Group on Garbage and Recycling will meet later this month to discuss the matter of a possible refund. The group must make a recommendation to the mayor, which would be presented by the City Administration to City Council for action.

The city has said since Red River adopted a new map and routing system earlier this month, it has seen a substantial reduction in garbage and recycling misses.
