The Parkview Foundation will host its 15th annual Cookin’ Men fundraiser event to benefit local women’s health. The event is Saturday at 7 p.m. at the Grand Wayne Convention Center.
More than 110 local men will don chef hats for the evening to serve up their own gourmet dishes and beverages to more than 1,400 attendees. A few of the chefs participating this year include Mike Packnett of Parkview Health, Mayor Tom Henry, Mike Nutter of the Fort Wayne TinCaps and a number of other local leaders representing a broad array of organizations and interests.
The Parkview Foundation is dedicating this year’s event to raise funds for women’s heart health initiatives in Northeast Indiana, citing that heart disease affects more women than all cancers combined.
“Women believe that their number one killer is breast cancer,” explained cardiologist Mark Oshaughnessy of the Parkview Heart Institute. “One in seven women will die of breast cancer. One in two women will die of heart disease. It’s the leading cause of death in women so we want to raise awareness for the community that heart disease is very important. So, it’s a great time for a great cause.”
