City says water is safe despite concerns over smell

Local News

Some Fort Wayne residents have raised concerns over water quality after saying their water had a funny smell.

According to the city, the odor is only due to water runoff and the water is safe.

“Around the country, not just in Fort Wayne, when you have a temperature warm up, when you have heavy rains that can just wash things into the river and our streams, it does affect the way things smell,” said city spokesman Frank Suarez.

Fort Wayne City Utilities does have a website available to check the quality of the city’s water. It explains the city’s filtration system and even has a meter gauging the described taste and odor of the water. There is also an option to describe it yourself with options like refreshing, like a swimming pool, or metallic. You can find that site by clicking here

Another tab breaks down the chemicals in the water and the amounts they are present within the federal regulations.
