A charity ride to prevent distracted driving will be held this weekend.

The 2nd annual Fallen Rider Memorial Ride will be held Saturday, April 14. The ride will travel 80 miles, from Wawasee High School in Syracuse to the American Legion Post 253 in North Webster.

The ride was created in honor of 20-year-old Erik “Doc” Mounsey of Bristol, who was killed while riding his motorcycle in a crash caused by a distracted driver in 2016.

The inaugural Fallen Rider Memorial Ride raised more than $5,000 to support the Wawasee High School Drivers Education Department with the intent of preventing accidents at the hands of distracted drivers. This year, proceeds from the ride will go to five school corporations: Wawasee, Whitko, Northridge, Goshen and Fairfield.

Registration for Saturday’s ride starts at 10 a.m. and the ride pulls away at noon. Food will be available at the American Legion at the conclusion of the ride, with live entertainment and a raffle.
