A driver was hospitalized in serious condition midday Tuesday after his vehicle left a near-downtown road and flipped onto its side.
Police and medics were called just before noon to an address along West Washington Boulevard on a report of a crash. There, responders found a car on its side in the front yard of a large home.
Police told NewsChannel 15 that the vehicle had accelerated from a traffic light and lost control due to wet road conditions. It then ramped up a street sign and curb and ended up on its side.
The driver was unconscious when police arrived but he regained consciousness, police said. He was taken to a nearby hospital in serious condition.
The yard of the home was left with damage, and the street sign was felled.
