A cow was killed in a fire in an outbuilding on a northwest-side property mid-afternoon Monday.
Washington Township Fire crews were called around 3:15 p.m. to a property at 4429 Butler Road, near Leesburg Road, on a report of a fire. A pole barn caught fire on the land.
Authorities told WANE 15 a 40 feet by 60 feet pole barn was fully engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived. Lifestock was housed in the barn, and officials said at least one calf was was found dead.
The calf was the same calf that was found wandering down Butler Road last week, authories said.
It’s not clear how the fire started. The homeowner said there was a heat source in the pole barn, but it’s not clear if it caused the fire.
Butler Road was closed to traffic at Leesburg Road while firefighters battled the blaze.
At least four fire departments responded to the blaze.
