FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - Hundreds of customers waited - some for 3-4 hours - to pay their age for a Build-A-Bear stuffed bear during an event at the Glenbrook Square Mall early Thursday.
Build-A-Bear held a "Pay Your Age" event Thursday, where customers could make their own stuffed bear in the store and pay their current age in dollars.
Build-A-Bear stuffed bears range in price from around $16 to upwards of $75 for giant bears.
With such potential for savings, the event was quite popular.
Images shared with NewsChannel 15 showed hundreds of customers waiting in the mall's hallways to get into the store. Customers were routed through the mall's interior tunnels to wait in line for the event.
Customers in line told NewsChannel 15 they waited 3-4 hours for the event. One customer said she arrived at 8 a.m. for the event and the line was already 400 people deep.
She estimated the line was three times as long by 9 a.m.
Some customers told NewsChannel 15 that Build-A-Bear had already run out of bears and the store was offering vouchers to customers.
Build-A-Bear posted on its website later that it could not accept any additional guests at locations, citing "crowd and safety concerns." It said it closed lines in all U.S. stores.
"We understand some of our Guests are disappointed and we will reach out directly as soon as possible," Build-A-Bear wrote on its website.
Build-A-Bear and mall officials refused to speak with NewsChannel 15 during the event.
