Anchor away: Brett Thomas signs out of news

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - One final goodbye. Brett Thomas announced that he is leaving the anchor desk Thursday night.

Thomas has served as main anchor at Newschannel 15 since June, 2015.

"It's not easy walking away from the best seat in the house, but after the birth of my 3rd daughter, Dolly Rae, I realized things had to change. This is entirely a family decision," said Thomas. "My girls are growing up, and need my guidance more than ever."

Thomas has accepted a position with Moore & Associates, an Ameriprise Private Wealth Advisory Practice owned by Christopher P. Moore. He will serve as a financial planner for the Fort Wayne based firm.

"I'm excited about embarking on a new career at an award winning, highly respected organization like Moore & Associates," said Thomas. "In many ways my communication skills as a journalist will translate to helping people achieve a safe and financially secure future."

During his 21 year career as a journalist, Thomas has worked as a reporter, executive producer, morning anchor and evening anchor in Lansing Michigan, Grand Rapids and Fort Wayne. Thomas has been awarded four Emmy's and three Edward R. Murrow's for investigative reporting, societal concerns and writing. He holds a Master's Degree from the University of Kansas and attended Baker University in Baldwin City, Kansas.

"I'm proud of what I was able to accomplish during my career. Journalism is an honorable profession, and I have had the opportunity to work with some of the best in the business," said Thomas.

"I am grateful to the people of Fort Wayne for inviting me into their homes over the past three years. But I'll still be around town. I look forward to helping Fort Wayne achieve greatness," said Thomas.

With Thomas' exit, Terra Brantley will assume the role of anchoring all evening newscasts until a co-anchor can be hired.
