Car drives through home, into pond; driver rescued

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - A driver was hospitalized Wednesday night after his vehicle crashed through a home and drove into a pond.

Police said at about 10 p.m. Wednesday a car crashed in the 13000 block of Tonkel Road. Investigators said the car left the road, drove through a house and ended up in a pond.

When officers arrived, they found a black passenger car partially submerged in a private pond. According to an Allen County Sheriff's Department report, police on the scene spotted the driver of the vehicle unconscious as the vehicle took on water.   

Several officers took off their gear and went into the water, the report said. Officers were eventually able to cut the driver's seatbelt and pull him from the vehicle, according to the report. 

The Fort Wayne Scuba Team was also  called in to help with a water rescue

The driver was hospitalized in serious condition, the report said. He has not been identified. 

 It's not clear yet what caused the crash.
