Boys and Girls Clubs of Fort Wayne honor young men at special breakfast

Local News

Every year, the Boys and Girls Clubs of Fort Wayne invite men from the community to celebrate young men who exemplify character virtues expected of all club members. They also recognize one man from the community who does the same.

This year’s Passport to Manhood Breakfast is Friday morning at the Mirro Center in Fort Wayne.

Boys and Girls Club organizers will recognize 11-year-olds Nataveon Jones and Savion Thomas, 15-year-old Michael Taylor, and 17-year-old Chris Wallace for their exceptional attitudes and efforts on their journey to manhood.

The clubs will also honor Larry Weigand, CEO and owner of Weigand Construction, for his contributions to the community.

Weigand, affectionately known as “Larry the Builder” around the Boys and Girls Clubs of Fort Wayne, has been behind several downtown revitalization efforts and other popular building projects.

Weigand also serves on several boards including SCAN (Stop Child Abuse and Neglect), Canterbury Schools, Purdue Fort Wayne Foundation Board, Greater Fort Wayne Inc., the Building Contractors, and the Indiana AGC board of directors.

Other men to be recognized in past years include Chuck Surack, Keith Busse, Ian Roland, Tom Kelley, Scott Glaze and Dr. Michael J. Mirro.

The breakfast is scheduled for 7:30-9 a.m. Friday. NewsChannel 15’s Pat Hoffmann will emcee the event once again this year.
