Boy struck, seriously hurt while riding bike

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) A bicyclist was seriously hurt after being struck by a vehicle in a near-downtown intersection early Thursday.

A bicyclist was hit by a vehicle at the intersection of St. Joseph Boulevard and Tennessee Avenue on Thursday, May 11, 2017.

The call came out just before 8 a.m. for an accident at St. Joseph Boulevard and Tennessee Avenue, close to Crescent Avenue. Police told NewsChannel 15 a boy was riding eastbound on Tennessee Avenue and rode across St. Joseph Boulevard through a red light.

A vehicle struck the boy there.

The boy was taken away in serious condition. He wasn’t wearing a helmet, police said.

Police reminded bicyclists to obey the rules of the road as if they were vehicles.

The intersection was closed while police investigated.
