Bluffton-Harrison Metropolitan Schools Superintendent Wayne Barker has been named superintendent of the Mishawaka school system.

The School City of Mishawaka schools board named Barker its superintendent during a board meeting Wednesday night.

Earlier this month, Barker announced plans to resign from Bluffton-Harrison schools, where he’d served for 24 years, at the end of the school year. He said then that he intended to take a position at another Indiana school corporation, but did not say where his new job would be.

Dr. Brad Yates, a 2002 graduate of Bluffton High School who had been the district’s assistant superintendent, has been hired to replace Barker as superintendent.

Mishawaka, with seven elementary schools, one middle and one high school, has an enrollment of more than 5,400, compared to Bluffton-Harrison’s 1,600 student.
