Kevan Chandler is an adventure-loving person who is in a wheelchair. That has not stopped him from pursuing his dreams and sending a message.
Chandler has backpacked through Europe and China. Each trip, he used a special backpack that his friends could carry him in. Chandler has Muscular Dystrophy. He hopes to be an inspiration for people to go out and make a difference.
“For people with disabilities, I would like for them to take away some inspiration that their world is not limited to what people have said that they can do or what they feel like they can do, but it’s a big world out there,” Chandler said “We can all experience it if we work together which is also the message to the abled-bodied too.”
At a book signing Friday night, Chandler said he hoped people would offer a helping hand when the opportunity presented itself.
“Our motto is ‘People helping people leads to true accessibility.’ With that, people can email us or find us on the street and say ‘hey, I want to help someone else. I want to be part of that idea.'”
Chandler said he hopes to take another trip soon to New Zealand as part of his motivational campaign. His story is also featured on a documentary. His team is accepting donations. The special backpack Chandler and his friends made to carry him on their trips is being made for wide-spread distribution and will be available for purchase this summer.
