Baseball field dedicated to founder of league for kids with disabilities

Local News

A Northcrest baseball field was dedicated to Sue Michell on Sunday afternoon.

In 1991, Michell started a challenger league for individuals with disabilities to play baseball and basketball.

Now, more than 60 kids participate in the league.

Michell passed away from cancer last November.

A sign with her name was placed above the field’s scoreboard.

“There aren’t many people who have spent 25 years volunteering with a program without being paid and doing multiple functions, ” said the the league’s co-founder George Glick. “Without her, there would not have been a challenger program.”

The baseball league will play games at the Sue Michell field during the season.
