Three falcon chicks that were hatched on top of the Indiana Michigan Power Center in downtown Fort Wayne earlier this year were banded Tuesday afternoon so they can be more easily monitored. 

John Castrale, a non-game bird biologist now retired from the Indiana Department of Natural Resources banded the chicks.  He was assisted by volunteers from Soarin’ Hawk Raptor Rehabilitation Center.

The three chicks were also given names.  Ranger, Glenn (after the Astronaut John Glenn not NewsChannel 15’s Glenn Marini ) and a female named Phoebe.

The DNR, Soarin’ Hawk and the Indiana Audubon Society are monitoring the birds and will provide medical care, nest cleanup and tracking according to a news release issued by I&M. 

The mother and father have been nesting atop the Indiana Michigan Power Center since 2012

Moxie, the falcon mother, migrated to Fort Wayne from Canton, Ohio and the father, Jamie, migrated to Fort Wayne from Port Sheldon, Michigan.
