FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - Arts United's "A Soaring Vision Campaign" got a significant financial boost from the AWS Foundation to create an inclusive Arts Campus.
The foundation, which works to help children and adults of all abilities to live as independently as possible, is pledging $2 million.
"What if there was an arts campus where anyone of any ability could come and participate in activities and events without limitation, " said Patti Hays, CEO of the AWS Foundation. "AWS Foundation and Arts United are committed to making that soaring vision a reality.”
The campaign is a push to make the Louis-Kahn designed Arts United Center ADA-compliant. When it was built 47 years ago, those requirements didn't exist.
Arts United is working with local organzations and architects to design updates to the building that will be accessible and suit the needs of individuals with sensory sensitivities.
Performances with the Civic Theatre and Fort Wayne Ballet will have sensory friendly performances with different lighting, noise levels and audience size.
