AVOW featured in Fort Wayne Magazine’s March issue

Advancing Voices of Women aims to involve women in public life and the community. The non-profit is being featured in Fort Wayne Magazine, just in time for March, which is Women’s History Month.

The idea behind AVOW is to educate and train women for full participation in public lives, by first engaging them in important public policy issues.

AVOW recruits local women to write op-eds in the Perspectives section of the Sunday Journal Gazette; host Civil Conversation on timely and often controversial subjects; get women to run for elected and appointed offices through the Women’s Campaign Institute.

AVOW says some of the ways men can help women by being informed by feminist analyses of society. Challenge women’s oppression, sexism and binary gender injustice. Be aware of women’s experiences and to bring them to the center of analysis, not to displace men, but to broaden the perspective. Try to develop non-oppressive forms of masculinity and non-sexist relations with women.
