Arrest made in motel death investigation

Local News

Fort Wayne Police have made an arrest in connection with the death of a woman at a Coliseum motel Wednesday.

Tyrin Royce Boone, 40, was taken into custody near the intersection of Hanna St. and Tillman Rd. around 8:47 p.m. Friday. Police were alerted to his location after someone immediately contacted police when they recognized him.

He has been preliminarily charged with aggravated battery.

Boone is considered a person of interest in a death investigation at the Regency Inn at 1004 W. Coliseum Blvd. Police and medics were called there around 12:25 p.m. Wednesday on an “unknown problem” and arrived to find a woman dead in a room.

Police have not said what happened and only called the case a “death investigation,” but witnesses told WANE 15 the woman was found with stab wounds and blood pooled around her body.

Thursday afternoon the Allen County Coroner’s Office released the woman’s name.  She has been identified as Janaya Michelle Boone, 38, of Fort Wayne.

“I’m glad that they caught him, and I’m glad that you know, it was soon,” said Janaya’s aunt Latoya Jones. “Being that we know that he has been arrested, we just hope that he confesses to telling what happened and justice needs to be served for her.”

The cause and manner of Boone’s death have not yet been determined.
