The 17th annual Cops Cycling for Survivors bicycle ride started Monday, and this year’s ride is honoring an Allen County Sheriff’s Sergeant.

Joseph Cox Jr. died on Feb 12, 2017 after suffering a medical emergency while responding to a crash. A support truck that is traveling with the cyclists has photos of Cox and Southport Lt. Aaron Allan, who was shot and killed July 20, 2017.

The 13 day bike ride will take active and retired police officers and survivors as well as family members and friends of law enforcement nearly 1,000 miles across Indiana to raise funds and awareness of the sacrifices made by Hoosier law enforcement families across Indiana.

The ride will go through Northeast Indiana. Riders will bike from Mishawaka to Angola on July 18, Angola to Bluffton on July 19 and Bluffton to Daleville on July 20.

The ride ends July 21 at the Crown Hill Cemetery Heroes of Public Safety Section in Indianapolis. To track the ride’s progress and see the full schedule, check out the organization’s Facebook page.
