FORT WAYNE - The Allen County SPCA hoped to clear the shelter Saturday as a part of a national event.
Hundreds of shelters across the country participated in the national Clear the Shelter pet drive. For the event, the Allen County SPCA offered free cat adoptions and half off of dog adoptions.
"It's been wonderful," said Melissa Gibson, Allen County SPCA Community Relations Manager. "The lobby is full. The dogs and cats already seem to be going home. It frees up our kennels to be able to do that so every one we send home, we can save another life by bringing them in from other shelters."
Since 2015, more than 150,000 pets nationally found their forever homes as a part of Clear the Shelter.
