Heat and high ozone levels in the forecast have caused the Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM) to issue an Air Quality Action Day for Sunday, May 27 and Monday, May 28 for Allen and Huntington counties in our area.
An Air Quality Action Day means that sensitive groups, such as children, the elderly, or those with lung or heart conditions may find it difficult to be outdoors. Everyone outside should avoid exertion and heavy work.
IDEM encourages everyone to help reduce ozone levels during this time. Suggestions for reducing ozone levels include:
- Walking, biking, or carpooling to limit driving.
- Avoid letting your car idle for long periods of time.
- Avoid refueling your vehicle or mowing the lawn until after 7 p.m.
- Setting your air conditioner thermostat to 75° or above.
