Soarin’ Hawk Raptor Rehabilitation has more money to put into its upcoming rehab center.
On Tuesday, Indiana Michigan Power presented a $100,000 check on behalf of the AEP Foundation to Soarin’ Hawk which goes toward one-third of the cost of building its new facility.
A new center to rescue and care for raptors will be at 17688 Lima Road near Huntertown. Soarin’ Hawk’s new campus will feature modern recovery enclosures, an aviary, triage space, an area to prepare raptor food and a base for volunteers. Construction is expected to start soon.
I&M and the birds of prey rehab organization have been working together to conserve wildlife since 1993 when peregrine falcons were introduced to Fort Wayne.
A nesting box for the falcons sits on the top of the Indiana Michigan Power Center. Soarin’ Hawk volunteers help the Indiana Department of Natural Resources with the banding of chicks several weeks after they hatch.
