Accessibility page promises to make Fort Wayne life easier

Local News

Visit Fort Wayne has launched a new Fort Wayne Accessibility landing page.

The page includes a list of popular sites and their accomodations for visitors with disabilities. It lets you know what to expect when you arrive at locations like Science Central, Parkview Field and more.

Information provided includes accessible parking availability for each location, if bathrooms are accessible, and resoures at each site.

There is also information about different organizations and resources for people with disabilities.

Officials at Visit Fort Wayne said they wanted to launch the page as the city becomes an increasingly popular destination for adaptive sporting events.

“We have the 2019 IBSA Goalball & Judo Qualifier here this summer and so many other adaptive sports competitions, so we really need one place for our visitors to go who need information about accessibility,” said Niche Marketing and Group Services Manager Rachel Stephens.

Visit Fort Wayne says the page is the first step in a larger effort to provide a detailed accessible guide to visitors and residents.

In order to make the page possible, Visit Fort Wayne formed an advisory committee of subject matter experts from AWS Foundation, Turnstone, The League, Autism Society of Indiana, Easterseals Arc of Northeast Indiana, City of Fort Wayne, Indiana ABA Institute and Fort Wayne Parks Department.
