A man, woman and two young children were hurt when the buggy they were riding in was struck by a car along U.S. 20 in LaGrange County Wednesday afternoon.
The driver of the car was then charged with intoxicated driving and drug charges.
Police and medics were called around 4:30 p.m. Wednesday to U.S. 20 at C.R. 100 West, just west of LaGrange. There, police found a horse-drawn buggy and a GMC Terrain crashed.
Four of the six people inside the buggy suffered injuries and were taken to a local hospital, including a 3-year-old and a 4-year-old.
According to a LaGrange County Sheriff’s Department report, the driver of the SUV – Aaron Winans, 31, of LaGrange – told police he had fallen asleep and rear-ended the buggy.
Winans was taken to a hospital for a blood and urine draw. He was then arrested on charges of Operating While Intoxicated with Controlled Substance, OWI Refusal, Possession of Methamphetamine, Possession of Marijuana, and Possession of Paraphernalia.
