A Fort Wayne 3rd grader is getting the chance to have her artwork go on Google’s homepage.

Athena Rodriguez is Indiana’s Doodle for Google winner. The competition asks kids create a logo that will be featured on their homepage as a doodle. Now that she’s won state, she’s competing to be one of 5 finalists in the country against 52 other students.

“I was super excited and happy for myself,” the 9-year old said.

The theme for this year was “what inspires me.” Athena said animals and outdoors excite her to explore the world. She drew a giraffe, rabbit, tree, Weiner dog, cat, butterfly as well as a tree, clouds and the sun.

“She loves art,” said her mother, Stacy Rodriguez. “She loves animals. She loves playing outside. From the moment she gets home from school, she’s ready to go outside and play. This girl just loves life. It definitely makes me proud. So it just makes me feel great knowing that now the world will see.”

The public can vote for Athena’s doodle to be a finalist on the Doodle for Google website. Voting opens up the first two weeks of May.
