The Fort Wayne Children’s Zoo opened for its 55th season on Saturday, and there are new attractions and animals to greet guests.
Among the new exhibits: the new-look Monkey Island.
For the past 3 years, the habitat for the fan-favorite capuchin monkeys has been under renovations. Now, the first thing guests will see as they enter the zoo will be the new multi-million dollar digs of Oliver and Wilson and the others.
Also new at the zoo in 2019 is the renovated otter exhibit nearby, along with a new viewing area where guests can see them dive and swim.
“There was six million dollars worth of construction at the zoo this winter,” Zoo Director Jim Anderson said on opening day. “It’s all done. Monkey Island is done. The River Otter Exhibit is done. Our new parking lot is done. So, we were super happy this morning to run open the gates, let the people in.”
Anderson said the zoo is open everyday from now until the middle of October. He said to everyone “come whenever.”
