2 Fort Wayne men arrested for Bloomington shooting death

Police think a drug buy became a robbery attempt

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (WANE) - Two Fort Wayne men have been arrested following a double shooting Thursday in Bloomington.

The Bloomington Police Department reports one victim died as a result of the shooting and one victim is in stable condition.

Jamarius Turnage, 25, and Cleodis Collins, Jr., 24, both of Fort Wayne, were taken into custody after the incident at an apartment complex on the north side of Bloomington. 

Turnage was was charged with murder and robbery; Collins with murder, attempted murder, and robbery. Police believe the men traveled to Bloomington to buy marijuana from the victims but decided to rob them instead.

Bloomington police arrived at an apartment complex in the 2000 block of North Walnut Street in response to multiple 911 calls reporting gunshots being heard within the complex.

Upon arrival, officers located two victims that had been shot inside an apartment. One victim had been shot multiple times in his upper torso and one victim had been shot in his shoulder. Both victims were transported by ambulance to a local hospital. Once at the hospital, the victim with multiple gunshot wounds, identified as 21 year-old Skylar Maupin of Seymour, died as a result of his injuries.

The surviving victim was able to provide information about one of the suspects to police, who were able to locate the suspect vehicle in Morgan County traveling northbound on I-69. Deputies with the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office took the two suspects into custody. The Deputies noted that a handgun could be seen in plain view on the floorboard of the suspect vehicle.

Officers with the Bloomington Police Department traveled to Martinsville and took custody of the two suspects and impounded the suspect vehicle for later processing.

After questioning, the two suspects were incarcerated in the Monroe County Jail.
