1 person, 6 dogs pulled from Broadway house fire

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) One person and six dogs were pulled from the second floor of a home containing five apartments along Broadway that caught on fire.

Firefighters responded to a house fire in the 2400 block of Broadway on Friday, Feb. 24, 2017.

Fort Wayne firefighters were called around 3 p.m. Friday to a home in the 2400 block of Broadway, at the intersection of Dewald Avenue, south of West Creighton Avenue, on a report of a fire. It was deemed under control around 3:20 p.m.

A NewsChannel 15 reporter indicated the fire started on a second floor. A person and a dog were reportedly hanging out of the second-floor window of the home. The person was rescued and taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

Six dogs in total were pulled from the home. One cat passed away. Eight other occupants were treated by the Red Cross.

Broadway was closed to traffic in the area while firefighters work.

The cause of the under is under investigation.
