Columbia City authorities are investigating after a house fire left one person dead early Friday morning.
Fire crews from three departments responded to the home at Van Buren Street and Peabody Avenue around 12:15 a.m.
When firefighters arrived, the home was engulfed in flames.
Crews jumped into action to put the fire out, but it took several hours to stop the smoke and flames from burning because of the high heat involved.
Columbia City Mayor Ryan Daniel confirmed one person was found dead inside the home.
The coroner was on scene to investigate the death once fire crews were able to get the fire out. He will release the identity of the victim at a later time.
No other injuries have been reported.
Investigators are still working to determine the cause of the fire.
