One person was critically hurt and other seriously in a multi-vehicle crash that closed Hillegas Road early Friday morning.
Police and medics were called just before 8 a.m. to Hillegas Road just north of State Boulevard at Husted Drive on a report of a crash.
Police at the scene told NewsChannel 15 that one person was reported to be in critical condition, others on the scene are in serious condition. First responders are still confirming the number of people who are injured and assessing their condition.
The driver of a truck pulling a trailer told a NewsChannel 15 videographer that he was driving south on Hillegas and he looked up and saw a Jeep left of center coming right at him. He swerved to the right and the Jeep nicked his truck near the rear wheel and then sideswiped the trailer, ripping a ladder off.
A car was also involved and three people inside were transported to a hospital. The driver of the Jeep was the sole occupant and that person was also taken to a hospital.
Sheriff’s department spokesman Adam Griffith said the SUV involved in the crash was reported to have been recklessly driving just before the crash. Griffith wasn’t sure where that report originated, however.
Hillegas Road was shut down between State and Butler and traffic was being diverted while authorities work the scene. It reopened just after 10:30 a.m.
