Indiana State Police are looking for a semi-tractor that was involved in a fatal Miami County crash Tuesday morning.

Police responded at about 2:40 a.m. to US 31 near Miami County Road 900 South to a two vehicle crash. A moped going southbound on US 31 was rear-ended by a dumpster truck.

Mark Rains and Terry Smith, both of Muncie, were thrown from the moped. Smith was hit by a southbound semi-tractor. It did not stop.

Smith died at the scene. Raines was airlifted to a Fort Wayne hospital with serious injuries. The dumpster truck driver, John Buckler, wasn’t hurt.

Investigators are still looking for the semi-tractor trailer. It is believed to be dark in color with a box trailer which possibly has a refrigerator unit. Police also believe it’s a Kenworth.
