Middlebury parents speak out after 10-year-old dies from bacterial meningitis

A fourth grader in Indiana has died from bacterial meningitis. Now, the Middlebury family is speaking out to help other learn more about the infection.

It’s been tough for Richard Anderson and Tasha Dipietro-Anderson to come to terms with their daughter’s death. Abbi was just 10-years-old.

Tasha says it started with an ear infection, and it quickly escalated. Two days later, Abbi passed away.

Her parents say they didn’t know why.

Bacterial meningitis is a deadly disease, but Tasha says Abbi’s case wasn’t contagious.

They want other parents to keep their eyes open in case their kids experience similar symptoms.  Those include: headaches, fevers, vomiting, ear infections or a stiff neck.

A fundraiser was set up to help pay for medical expenses.  In just 3 days, nearly $12,000 has been raised.

The family is having a memorial for Abbi on February 22nd.
