Indiana State Trooper injured in crash with pickup

GRANT COUNTY, Ind. (WANE) - An Indiana State Trooper suffered minor injuries Wednesday morning when a pickup pulled into the path of his squad car in Grant County. 

The crash took place just efore 8:00 a.m. 

A preliminary investigation by Indiana State Police determined that the pickup, driven by Michael Herring, 70, of Keystone, Indiana was headed eastbound on CR 100 North and had stopped at the intersection with CR 600 East.  

Herring then drove into the intersection to turn north when he was struck by the ISP squad car driven by Senior Trooper Jeremy Perez which was headed south on CR 600 East. 

Perez was transported by ambulance to a Ft Wayne hospital with a complaint of leg and back pain.

Herring was transported to Marion General Hospital with a cut on his arm. Both men have been treated and released.

Both drivers were wearing seat belts.

Senior Trooper Perez was on-duty at the time of the crash.

Indiana State Police indicated this is an ongoing investigation, but neither the use of alcohol nor narcotics is suspected as being a contributing factor in the crash.
