A fire chief was arrested after the Indiana State Police Organized Crime and Corruption Unit discovered he stole $28,000 from his department.

The Indiana State Police was contacted on October 2018 after an audit revealed missing funds from the Patriot Volunteer Fire Department.

After a four-month investigation, it was discovered Patriot Fire Chief Gordon W. Turner, Jr., age 45, stole $28,000 from the department and used it to pay his bills and personal spending. The thefts allegedly took place between 2014 and 2018 when Turner was the fire chief.

On Friday, Turner was arrested without incident on four felony charges of Theft and four felony charges of Official Misconduct.

He is being held at the Switzerland County Jail pending his initial court appearance.
