One person is dead after a three-vehicle crash on the Indiana Toll Road in Steuben County late Thursday morning.
Around 11:40 p.m., Indiana State Police were called to the Indiana Toll Road just east of the Fremont exit.
According to police, a box truck, driven by 44 year-old Shawn L. Alston of Chesterfield, Virginia was going west on the toll road when it went through the center median and into the eastbound lanes.
The box truck was then hit by semi truck, driven by Derwin W. Patton, 54, of LaGrange. After the collision, Patton’s semi was hit by a second semi.
Alston suffered severe injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Police say it is unclear if he was wearing a seatbelt.
Patton was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and was expected to be treated and released. The second semi driver was not hurt.
The crash is under investigation pending autopsy and toxicology results.
