GREENWOOD, Ind. (WISH) – Police in Greenwood arrested a man in the case of an elderly woman who was reportedly raped and beaten Friday morning. Records of the mans past show he is a sexually violent predator.

According to police, the suspect was taken into custody Saturday in Beech Grove.

Police in Beech Grove notified Greenwood police that they had a possible suspect that could be connected to the brutal attack.

Greenwood detectives located 42-year-old Ira S. Link in the 1100 block of Bethel Avenue. Link was arrested and taken to the Greenwood Police Department.

On Friday, the Greenwood Police Department responded to the Valle Vista subdivision just before 10 a.m.

Police say the victim answered a knock at her door, was pushed back into her home, and then beaten and sexually assaulted while having her life threatened. According to police, she was alone at the time of the assault.

Police categorized the attack as a serial rape case because it was random. The woman did not know the man who attacked her. However, the man left behind a extra large black Geoffrey Beene jacket.

Link was preliminary charged with rape, burglary and confinement. His bond was set at $192,000.The woman was taken to the hospital with injuries from her attack but police say she should be OK.

According to the sex offender register,  Link was registered as a sexually violent predator. According to the records, he was convicted of child molesting in 1993 and was sentenced to 39 years. He was released on June 6, 2014.

Greenwood police say the case remains under investigation.
