FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – Southwest and Aboite firefighters battled a barn fire early Wednesday morning.
Fire crews were called to the 8600 block of Lower Huntington Road near Branstrator Road around 2:30 a.m.
Southwest Fire Chief Don Patnoude said the barn was fully engulfed in flames when crews arrived. He said the barn had also collapsed before their arrival.
Firefighters used several pumpers and an aerial truck to put water on the flames. It took less than an hour to get the fire under control.
Patnoude said the property has been vacant for years, including a house that sits about 200 feet from the barn. He didn’t believe anything of great value remained in the barn, but was unsure what might be in the silos. Flames could be seen towering out of one of the silos. It’s unclear if any electricity was running to the barn.
Fire officials also requested the water tanker from the Air National Guard.
No injuries were reported.
Patnoude said it’s unknown what started the fire.
The cause is under investigation.
