FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – One of the area’s most famous fishing eateries will close its doors later this month.

Gropp’s Famous Fish of Stroh, 6736 E. State Boulevard, will close Mar. 25 due to retirement of the restaurant’s owners, Fred and Stacia Andriano.

The Georgetown Square location opened in 2005.

The famous fish recipe will be retained by Andriana & Affiliates, Ltd. The group said they will keep the original Gropp’s spice mix, recipes and name. The group hopes to license the recipes to other restaurant locations for future use.

The closing of the Georgetown location means there will be no Gropp’s Famous Fish of Stroh in operation for the first time since 1955, according to an emailed statement from Andriana & Affiliates.

The owners said in a statement:

We want to thank our customers for their patronage and support over the past 11 years.  We will miss them.  Many have become like family.

We also want to thank our employees, current and past, for their efforts.  Without them, there would be no fish served.

For customers who loved some of the memorabilia inside the restaurant, you have a chance to get some of it. An auction will be held Mar. 29 and 10 a.m. All items in the restaurant, including equipment, will be sold.
