New Haven police responded to an armed robbery at a fast-food restaurant and tracked the possible suspect to a Fort Wayne motel.
New Haven police responded to McDonald’s, 7502 State Road 930, around 11:08 p.m. NHPD Sgt. Brent Bolinger said a man gave a note to an employee at the drive-thru window demanding cash. Bolinger said the suspect also displayed a weapon.
When officers arrived at the restaurant the suspect had already left. Bolinger said police received information the suspect left in a silver minivan.
During the investigation, police somehow tracked the suspect to the Hallmark Inn, 3730 East Washington Blvd., in Fort Wayne – approximately 2 1/2 miles from the McDonald’s.
Both New Haven and Fort Wayne police officers were at the motel for several hours.
It’s not clear how police learned the suspect was possibly at the motel. Officers attempted to get the suspect to leave a room with a flash bang device, but no one exited.
Bolinger told NewsChannel 15 police abandoned their efforts to locate the suspect after being unable to determine which room the man might be in.
Police towed a silver minivan from the motel that is believed to belong to the suspect. Bolinger said the minivan will be used to collect possible evidence connected to the robbery,
Police said the suspect got away with an undisclosed amount of cash from the McDonald’s. No one was hurt.
The incident is under investigation.
