A man who was high on marijuana at the time of a crash that killed his wife while they delivered newspapers on an icy road back in 2016 was sentenced to six years in prison Friday morning.
Jamie Stayer and his wife Colleen were delivering newspapers along Amstutz Road on December 30, 2016 when he drove across the center line and was struck by an oncoming vehicle.
Investigators believe Colleen Stayer was not wearing a seat belt so she could easily reach into the back seat for newspapers. She was killed in the crash. The couple’s infant was in the back seat and was not hurt in the crash. Jamie Stayer suffered minor injuries and the driver of the other vehicle was not hurt.
Medical tests showed that Jamie Stayer had THC in his system. He was charged with several felonies in May of 2017.
