A man who was found shot to death in a Fort Wayne alley this past weekend has been identified after the Allen County Coroner’s Office asked for the public’s help.
Donta L. Grundy, a 27-year-old Fort Wayne man, died of gunshot wounds and his death was ruled a homicide, the coroner’s office said Wednesday.
It was around 2 p.m. Sunday when Fort Wayne police were called to the 1500 block of Oxford Street for a problem unknown after a motorist spotted a body in the alley, according to FWPD Spokesman Officer Mark Bieker.
Paramedics pronounced the man dead at the scene.
Detectives canvassed the area looking for any potential witnesses and crime scene technicians gathered and photographed any potential evidence.
In a press release issued Tuesday then, the Allen County Coroner’s Office said it was unable to identify the victim and asked for the public’s help, offering his description and explaining he had various scars, marks and tattoos on his body.
Anyone with information that could help authorities identify the person was asked to call the Fort Wayne Police Department, Crime Stoppers or the Allen County Coroner’s Office.
The coroner’s office said Wednesday that after that plea for help, Grundy’s family contacted the coroner’s office and gave details describing and identifying him.
