The Kosciusko County Jail will soon have a body scanner to prevent the smuggling of drugs, weapons and other contraband.
The sheriff’s department has purchased a $138,000 B-Scan whole body scanner from Command Sourcing Inc. The department announced the purchase on Friday.
The body scanner will detect objects that are concealed in the body or on the body, including weapons, explosives, detonators, narcotics, electronic devices, diamonds and other precious stones and mobile phones, according to Command Sourcing. It can conduct a full head-to-toe scan of a body in less than 7 seconds, the company said.
The sheriff’s department said the body scanner chosen was well vetted by both the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department and the Indiana Sheriff’s Association.
The body scanner is expected to be delivered in July and operational soon thereafter.
