An arrest has been made in the fatal shooting of a man outside a southeast-side apartment building last December.
Bryan L. Flowers, 34, faces a charge of Murder in the Dec. 23 killing of De’andre Anthony Voss in the 1400 block of Greene Street. Prosecutors also filed a sentence enhancement for using a firearm in the incident.
It was around 4 a.m. that near-Christmas morning when police were called to the Villages of Hanna Apartments after witnesses said they heard a gunshot and looked outside and saw a man bleeding on the ground. Officers arrived and found Voss dead outside a building.
Surveillance cameras from the scene captured the incident. The video showed a man pull a handgun and shoot Voss in the head, then get into a two-tone van, flick away a cigarette and drive off, according to a probable cause affidavit filed with Flowers’ arrest.
Police found that cigarette butt on the ground. Test results completed this month showed that cigarette had Flowers’ DNA on it, the affidavit said.
A Fort Wayne Police officer driving through the apartment complex found a two-tone van parked. According to the affidavit, it was registered to Flowers. It was towed and searched.
Witnesses said the shooting happened during a party at the apartment complex, according to the affidavit. One witness said Voss told a man who spilled liquor on the floor to leave, and moments later, “there were shots outside,” the affidavit said.
Another witness said “I’m going to be honest with you” and told police he heard the shot and saw “EBK,” or Voss, lying on the ground and Flowers “got up out of there.”
One witness said the shooting was the result of “dumb drunk (expletive),” according to the affidavit.
