2 teens critically hurt in shooting

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – Two teens were critically injured after being shot near the 700 block of Huffman Street, according to the Fort Wayne Police Department.

According to city police spokesman Officer Michael Joyner, officers were called at 7:50 p.m. Thursday to Huffman Street after reports of multiple gunshots.

Police, however, did not find a shooting victim.

Joyner said people in the area told police they believed someone who was injured got into a vehicle and was taken to an area hospital. Joyner said a few minutes later a Fort Wayne hospital notified police a person who had been shot had arrived at their facility.

Joyner said investigators believe the victim who arrived at the hospital by private vehicle was also the person seen leaving a home on Huffman Street.

At 8 p.m., officers were notified of a possible shooting victim getting into a car near Masterson and Barr Streets, approximately two miles from the Huffman Street address.

The second victim was taken to a hospital by ambulance.

Both men were reported in critical condition. Joyner identified them later as Willie Kemp Walker Jr. and Christopher Ace Ferrel, both 18. Walker was the victim found at the intersection of Masterson and Barr streets; Ferrel was the victim that was taken from Huffman Street to a local hospital.

Walker remained in critical condition Friday morning. Ferrel was upgraded to serious condition.

Joyner said investigators believe both victims were shot somewhere near the Huffman Street location. However, detectives are still trying to determine a motive.

Two vehicles were stopped by police after Joyner said witnesses provided information to investigators. Joyner said its believed the vehicles were leaving the area of Huffman Street shortly after the shooting. The individuals in the vehicles were detained by police for additional questioning.

Joyner did not say how many people were being questioned from the vehicles or if they were suspects.

No arrests have been made.
